Scott Davis Featured on The Bear Roars Podcast

šŸŽ™ļø We’re thrilled that our CEO and co-founder, Scott Davis, was featured on The Bear Roars podcast!

In this episode, Scott dives into how Vescent leverages Nobel Prize-winning frequency comb technology to develop precision laser and electro-optic systems. From quantum sensing to advanced timing solutions, we’re at the forefront of bringing quantum technologies out of the lab and into the real world. Whether you’re a quantum expert or just starting your journey into this exciting field, there’s something for everyone in this discussion!

Podcast excerpt:

(Scott Davis:) "I'm trained as a quantum physicist. I love quantum mechanics. It is the way theĀ universe works at the very small and the veryĀ cold. I started loving Quantum when I was an undergraduate in college. I’ve alwaysĀ liked physics. I like physics, and I like art. I actually see those as two sides of the same coin—science and art. They are ways that help us understand ourĀ place in the universe—interpret the universe. One kind of comes at it from aĀ reductionist perspective, and one from a more holistic perspective, and I think the intersection isĀ fascinating. When I went to college, I was taking classical mechanics and so classical mechanics which is amazing. That's how Voyager was able toĀ hit the distant planets over decades. It’s the physics of pool balls; it's the physics of our everyday world. Our intuition is classical.

When did I get fascinated in quantum mechanics? I was learning class mechanics. I loved it. I loved craziness like the Coriolis Effect and … just understanding how to beĀ predictive of where things are going to be in the future. But then I had this realization that, at any instantĀ in time, every particle in the universe, every atom,Ā has a certain position and momentumĀ at a given period in time. And if the rules were just classical physics, then if you had aĀ big enough computer, you could predict the wholeĀ future. So then I was like, it's all predetermined; there's no free will. And I actually got a little depressed about that. It was like, what the hell am I doing this for?

But then I took quantum mechanics. And I realized that, no no, the universe is way moreĀ subtle. Way more nuanced..."
