A Photonic Clockwork for Deployed Timing and Radar
Neuchâtel, Switzerland
At EFTF 2024, Director of Product Development Andrew Attar presented an environmentally robust photonic RF/microwave clockwork based on Vescent’s RUBRIComb for next-generation, field-deployable timing and radar applications. Dr. Attar covered two recent demonstrations of the technology:
In the first demonstration, the RUBRIComb was integrated with a prototype of the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA) laser at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) where ultra-stable timing signals were generated to show pathway for a space-based timing system in NASA’s future Event Horizon Explorer mission.
In another demonstration, the RUBRIComb was used to generate ultralow-noise X-band microwaves at 10 GHz with a noise performance superior to state-of-the-art microwave oscillators, including a commercial active Hydrogen MASER and a low-noise 10 GHz Wenzel oscillator.
