Position Summary
Vescent Technologies seeks a Senior Electrical Test Engineer to lead and support production test development for low-noise PCBA’s and electro-mechanical assemblies used in precision optoelectronics, lasers, and next-generation timing systems. In this role, you will work closely with manufacturing, quality, and design (electrical, mechanical, and software) teams to develop robust PCB test fixtures, implement design-for-test (DFT) strategies, and create automated test scripts that ensure reliable, high-volume production. You will also coordinate and lead electronics compliance testing (EMC/EMI and electrical safety) of new products across Vescent’s electronics and optoelectronics technology portfolio. The ideal candidate combines strong circuit knowledge with hands-on troubleshooting skills and a practical understanding of manufacturing environments. You will play a key role in improving product testability, diagnosing complex electrical issues, and maintaining compliance with relevant electrical and regulatory standards. This position requires a proactive engineer who can bridge the gap between product development and production while continuously improving test processes and yield.
Responsibilities
Work within a highly cross-functional engineering team to lead the development of PCBA production test fixtures and processes (bed-of-nails, functional test systems, and custom interfaces).
Define and implement design-for-test (DFT) methodologies to improve manufacturability and test coverage.
Develop and maintain automated test scripts and software for production and engineering validation.
Troubleshoot electrical, fixture, and test system issues across development and manufacturing environments.
Support electrical compliance and regulatory testing, ensuring products meet applicable standards, such as for EMC/EMI compliance and Product Safety compliance.
Collaborate with hardware, firmware, and manufacturing teams to improve test efficiency, reliability, and yield.
Document test procedures, fixtures, and validation results to support scalable production.
Contribute to electrical schematic design reviews and PCBA layout reviews using deep technical knowledge to scrutinize designs for potential issues and uses of best practices.
Train and support production staff in correct usage of test fixtures/tooling, equipment, and software/scripts.
Travel requirements: <2 weeks, mostly to local test facilities
Required Qualifications
Minimum education: B.S. degree in engineering, science, or related field.
Work experience: 3+ years using ECAD tools for PCB layout, component library maintenance, and generating manufacturing documentation packages.
Demonstrated proficiency in reading and understanding circuit schematics.
Demonstrated knowledge of DFMA and DFT best practices and direct experience developing Test Processes.
Demonstrated understanding of electrical / RF theory and practical knowledge regarding electrical noise and interference mitigation.
Demonstrated ability in applying this theoretical and practical knowledge when reviewing team member’s circuit designs and PCBA layouts.
Proficient with operating standard electrical test equipment, including oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers
Electronic troubleshooting skills.
Basic soldering/rework skills.
Desirable Additional Skills
Experience using Altium for schematic capture, layout design, and parts library maintenance.
Familiarity with industry standards like IPC-A-600 and IPC-2221.
Familiarity with industry compliance standards like IEC 61326 and IEC 61010
Familiarity with EMC/EMI compliance best practices.
Experience working with high-density PCBAs including low-noise, high-speed analog and mixed-signal circuits.
